This is a membership card dated 1933 for the National Sozialistischer Deutscher Studenten Bund generally referred to as the Studentenbund and abbreviated N.S.D.St.B. This is an extremely rare document. Studentenbund material is generally very, very difficult to find. A membership card from 1933 (before Hitler took power) is exceptionally difficult to find. This card is dated on the front 1933. On the back is a membership dues stamp for 1934/35. There is a section on the Studentenbund in The HJ, Volume 2 by J.R.Angolia, pages 108 through 125. The Studentenbund was the NSDAP organization for people in college.

Size is about 43.75” by 64.75”. On the upper corner of each side is sewn a 5.25 by 7.5 inch sky blue wool patch with heavy twisted silver/aluminum cord trim which has tarnished and oxidized to a golden hue. The center of the patches have the chain stitched numbers “1/382” which is for Gefolgshaft 1, Bann 382 which was located in Oldenburg. Oldenburg is southwest of Hamburg and west of Bremen, only about 4 miles from the North Sea. This flag has the DLV (Deutscher Luftsport Verband = German Flying Association) insignia sewn onto each patch. The Fleiger-HJ units were authorized to use this insignia I think for only about one and a half years, making this an extremely rare flag. Six of the original seven aluminum suspension rings are still attached. The flag shows light to moderate soiling, a few small stains and a couple of small holes and stitched repairs. The damage is not overly distracting.

This is a large 45" by 60" flag. It is in near perfect condition with some wear to the fringe and you can see where the top ring was nailed to a pole. The words on the ship side of the flag are "Die Freibeuter" which in English means "The Buccaneer" or "The Pirate." The life rune on the flag on the top of the ship was used by the HJ for medical units.

The DJ rune has about a 1/2 inch red border. The pirate ship side uses a lot of metallic thread or fabric. There is a life rune (which was used by the HJ for field or medical units) on the flag on the ship. All 7 aluminum rings are in place and RZM marked.

Amazing condition and an extremely rare and high quality flag.

This is a hard cover book about 5 by 7 inches. It is in really nice condition except for aging of the paper and I think I saw some discoloration on one of the pages, but I can't find it now. It is 80 pages, mostly text with two color plates.
